Public Observing is CANCELLED for Saturday 8/31/'13

We have reluctantly cancelled Public Observing for Saturday Aug. 31st. Clouds have moved in with heavier cloud coming from the west. The NWS Graphical forecast calls for 68-75% sky cover, while the Oberlin clear sky chart calls for clouds, with both transparency and seeing listed as "poor". Given those conditions we hate to drag people out on a three day weekend when it is unlikely we could see much due to conditions. The club hopes people enjoy the Labor Day holiday.

Our General Meeting is Wednesday Sept. 4th at 7:00 at the Carlisle Visitors Center on Diagonal Rd. The presentation will be a video on telescopes and binoculars and will be a great introduction for anyone interested in getting started in astronomy. As always, the public is welcome and there is no charge.

We have solar observing on Sunday sept.15th (clear skies only) at Mill Hollow in the Vermilion River Reservation from 1:00-4:00 PM. Please join us to see the sun through safe solar telescopes.

Our next Public Observing session is Friday September 27th from9:00-11:00 PM at the Nielsen Observatory. Please see the "MAPS" tab on this website for the location of the observatory or our monthly meeting location at the Visitors Center.

Members are reminded about our OTAA Convention Saturday Sept. 7th at the Methodist Church hall in Birmingham. Solar observing starts at 1:00 with all other activities and registration starting at 4:30. Please bring a dish to pass and a beverage. Sale and swap tables are available. Please note that this is not a public event.
