We have CANCELLED Public Observing for Friday August 9th due to heavy cloud cover. THERE IS NO BACK-UP DATE THIS TIME. We have solar observing Sunday Aug. 11th from 1:00-4:00 at the LCMP Sandy Ridge Reservation. Come join us to see our very active sun through safe solar telescopes.
Our next Public Observing session is Friday August 30th from 10:00 PM until midnight at the Nielsen Observatory at the Carlisle Equestrian Center on Diagonal Rd. See the maps section on this website for a map and directions if you haven't been here before.
For folks interested in getting started in astronomy, we have a program at our next general meeting that would be ideal for beginners. We are showing a 35 minute video on telescopes and binoculars that will give good information on both types of instruments. Our general meetings are held at the Carlisle Visitors Center on Diagonal Rd. (map on this website) and will start at 7:00 PM. The public is always welcome. We hope to see you soon!
Members are reminded that the MVAS OTAA convention is this Saturday, August 10th starting at 5:00 PM. Check their website for more information. Our friends at Mahoning Valley always put on a good show and have great food.
The purpose of this forum is to provide a place for members of The Black River Astronomical Society to blog, discuss upcoming meetings, cancel meeting, advertise their intent to go to the Nielson, etc. The Black River Astronomical Society has been bringing astronomy to, and serving Lorain County residents continuously since 1949.
