The Black River Astronomical Society will participate in International Astronomy Day on Sunday April 21st. This event will be held at the Lorain County MetroParks Johnson Wetlands Center, Sandy Ridge Reservation from 1:00-4:00 PM.
Outside (weather permitting) we will have telescopes set up with safe solar filters for viewing our very active sun. Through these filtered telescopes, you will be able to see sunspots, solar prominences (or solar flares as they are popularly called), and granulation and filaments on the sun's "surface". Inside the building, we will have displays, software to demonstrate and give away and telescopes to display. We also have hand-outs about the club and about how to get started in amateur astronomy. A telescope is not needed! We will also have members on hand to great you and to answer questions about astronomy. Come and find out about your "Birthday Star", which is a star whose light left the star on the day you were born and is just reaching us now. This event is free and open to the public and we hope to see you there!

The purpose of this forum is to provide a place for members of The Black River Astronomical Society to blog, discuss upcoming meetings, cancel meeting, advertise their intent to go to the Nielson, etc. The Black River Astronomical Society has been bringing astronomy to, and serving Lorain County residents continuously since 1949.
