We are OPEN AGAIN!

We are delighted to announce that the Black River Astronomical Society is opening up again! Our next General Meeting is in person on Wednesday June 2nd at the Lorain County Metro Parks Carlisle Visitors Center at 7:00 PM. We will meet in the larger of the two meeting rooms to allow us more room. The Metro Parks is requiring the same guidelines as the CDC: people who are fully vaccinated need not wear a mask or socially distance. Those unvaccinated need to mask and distance a bit. People who are fully vaccinated but hesitant about indoor crowds are, of course, welcome to mask, as well. The program will be Mike Garret speaking on the Gallilean Moons of Jupiter. We are also starting our star parties again. Our first one will be for CLUB MEMBERS ONLY and will occur on Friday Jene 11th from 10:00-12:00 midnight at the Nielsen Observatory. This star party is for us to get used to running the event again and to give us the opportunity to see how comfortable people are about sharing telescopes. The same CDC/LVMP guidelines apply. If it is cloudy on Friday, Saturday June 12th is our back-up date. If this event goes as well as we anticipate, our first PUBLIC Observing session will be Friday June 18th from 10:00-12:00 midnight at the observatory. Saturday the 19th is our back-up date in case of clouds. Unless the weather is obviously clear, it is always a good idea to check the website BlackRiver Astro.org or our Facebook page to see if we have cancelled before driving to the observatory given Ohio's fickle weather. For directions to the Visitors Center for the meeting or to the observatory for the observing sessions, please click on the "Maps" tab at the top of the home page of the website. We can't wait to see you...it has been too long! Steve Schauer President, BRAS BRASPres@gmail.com
