Tonight, May 16th, 2009, at 7pm we have a Work Party scheduled for The Nielson Observatory on Diagonal Road. I will be bringing some carpentry tools so we can try to close off the holes where our friendly racoon has been entering the observatory on cold, wet nights. I'll be there to open up the observatory at 6pm if anyone feels like joining me then, feel free.(This is a rain or shine event.)
Later in the evening, at 9pm, we have a StarParty scheduled for The Nielson Observatory on Diagonal Road. Radar indicates clearing skies about 5pm, so we will be holding the observing session.
Follow the signs for the Equestrian Center and look for the Observatory on the left when you arrive at the parking lot. (This is a weather permitting event.)

Before leaving home for any of the weather permitting events, please check this page for cancellation notices.
Also, at this time of year anything can happen weatherwise so don't be fooled by the warmth of the day. Temperatures can fall dramatically after the sun sets, although predictions are not indicating a huge drop tonight. To be on the safe side, bring a sweater, jacket, gloves, cap and coat. Then you can add or subtract layers to fit your personal needs.
The Nielson Observatory is located within the Metroparks system off of Diagonal Road. Follow the signs for the Equestrian Center and look for the Observatory on the left when you arrive at the Equestrian Center parking lot.
The Observatory is manned by the membership of TheBlackRiver Astronomical Society, who have been bringing Amateur Astronomy to Lorain County residents since 1949.
